1103 / visions from the hill

TREDOZIO, ITALY
"1103 - Visions from the Hill” is an endeavor to explore my roots, beginning with a place that has been both a theatre of some childhood memories and of an ongoing trauma that runs in my family tree.

The project is set in Tredozio, an Italian village that counts nowadays, after a major depopulation, only 1103 inhabitants, each one, somehow, related to the other. I felt compelled to spend time in the place where my ancestors are buried, starting my research in the land of my origins where my childhood traumas stem from.

In my imagination, this has been a study on the relationship between myself, as a photographer, and the subjects of the images. I began with a visual exploration as a photographer to depict trauma starting from within myself.

Throughout this process, I wanted to experiment with the boundary between reality and surrealism, and I discovered my interest in the surreal.
On the threshold of fiction and reality, Tredozio becomes a stage of life and all its inhabitants the characters we each play in our own stories.

We all carry shadows and light. We all carry our own secrets and those of our ancestors.
